Calligrapher's and Illuminator's Guild - CANCELLED

The Steppes Calligraphy and Illumination Guild is a group of people within the Barony that get together at least once a month to paint, create, share and enjoy the common interest we all have; which is creating the beautiful works of art that are given as awards within the SCA.

We have members that paint, we have members that enjoy recreating the hands of ancient calligraphers, and we have those that enjoy creating new works of art from scratch for the others to bring to life with their paints and calligraphy! It is a true collaborative effort of all involved.

Of course, there are the small side benefits of things like chocolate, and the sharing of stories from events past, and getting to know more people in your Barony.

"But I am not an artist!"

If you can hold a paint brush, color in the lines, and are willing to learn, you don't have to be an artist to participate!

"I don't know how to do Calligraphy!"

Steppes Populace Meeting

Greetings All,

This Friday evening is the Baronial Populace Gathering starting at 7:30 pm,
and Faelan and I will be hosting it at our home. The address is 8920
Yosemite Trail, Aubrey, TX 76227. Below is the google map. We are 3 houses
on the South side of the street before you get to Round Up. We'll have a
shield in the front yard and tiki torches to guide your way. The street

Woodworking Day

My husband Duncan de Bard and I would like to invite everyone to come to a
Woodworking Day at our home on this SATURDAY September 20 at 1 pm (we are
trying not to conflict with Fighter Practice and Archery Practice for a change).
Bring your own projects, and the lathe will be going, but there is other equipment
that you can work with as well. Please email us if you think you will attend.
Ending time is approximately 5 pm or so, but if you like and the weather is
cooperative, we can grill out in the back. We live at 2713 Pasadena
Place in Flower Mound, 75022. (I'm trying really hard to avoid telling
you to bring your own wood and/or your own meat because of the comments I
know will be forthcoming, but I just can't resist).

Loaner gear is available and good gentles will happily be willing to instruct beginners in the fine art of Chivalric or Heavy Fighting.
For those who have interest in Missile Combat - how to become a Combat Archer to assist our heavy fighters in various War and/or Melee events that are held throughout the year.

The following dates the Fighter Practice will not be held:

How the SCA Works
A monthly discussion at Robin and Serena’s house

The SCA is a co-operative game. It works because we all work together and play together.

This leads to an obvious question – how does it work, and what can you do to become a bigger part of it?

Every month, Robin and Serena will take one aspect of the SCA and discuss how it’s supposed to work, how it really does work, and how you can be part of it. Topics will include the social structure, the award system, the officers, how events work, and other topics to be chosen based on the suggestions of the attendees.

So come to Robin and Serena’s house at 7:00 p.m. on Thursday, September 18, 2008 for the second topic:

Open Library at Robin and Serena's

Dear folk of the Steppes,

Master Robin and Mistress Serena are pleased to host Open Library
Night the second Wednesday of every month.

Library hours will be 7:00 p.m. to 11 p.m.

Come to read! Come to research! Come just to visit with friends!

We have an extensive collection of books, including:

fencing and military history,
facsimiles of period fencing manuals,
calligraphy & illumination,
costume & fashion,
embroidery,
history (specializing in English Renaissance and American
Revolution),
poetry,
science & mathematics,
fiction (mainly science fiction and fantasy),
heraldry,
some music and theatre (including Commedia),
legal history,
Classical and foreign languages,
a Latin Vulgate and a Greek New Testament,
and an Oxford English Dictionary.

The Annex contains the infamous Comic Book Fort, consisting of 24
long-boxes of comic books (mainly Marvel and DC, plus a complete
Elfquest), with an additional 50-100 collections and graphic novels

Central Regional Fall Fighter Practice

Greetings,

A Fall Central Regional Fighter Practice is being held in Rosenfeld
(Longview) on Saturday, October 11. I want to ask and encourage as many of
the Central Regional Fighters as possible to come join us for this one day
practice.
This will also be a joint practice with the Shire of Ardanroe.

arrive.
Bring your cooler, folding chair, sunshade, armor and weapons, and something
to add to the potluck Saturday Afternoon. (There is a Wal-Mart within a mile
of the park for gas and grub)
